What if defenders could see the future? If they knew an attack was coming, they could stop it, or at least mitigate its impact and help ensure what they need to protect most is safe. The fact is, defenders can see what’s on the horizon. Many clues are out there—and obvious. For years, Cisco has been warning defenders about escalating cybercriminal activity around the globe. In this, our latest annual cybersecurity report, we present data and analysis from Cisco threat researchers and several of our technology partners about attacker behavior observed over the past 12 to 18 months.

Helping agencies prepare and respond to this threat is a key reason GSA and DHS developed the Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation (CDM) program in 2013. The program was designed to provide agencies with quick access to automated network monitoring and risk-assessment tools that are able to quickly prioritize and remediate security vulnerabilities. DHS is authorized to pay for the first two years of the program as an incentive for implementing CDM. Agencies are making progress, but as Kent’s statement suggests, there is still work to do.

Things are not as they used to be in the enterprise. Today’s employees are mobile, they’re storing and accessing data in cloud apps, and are in disparate networks. Yet, the threat-centric security approach, with its static policies forces decisions about cyber activity with no insight into the broader context. The result is a disproportionate number of flagged activities, overwhelming security teams who have no way to understand the ones most worthy of investigation. Read Rethinking Data Security with a Risk-Adaptive Approach to learn how a human-centric, risk-adaptive approach can help your organization be more proactive

"Ransomware is top of mind for many organizations’ leaders as their organizations face the potentially disastrous aftermath of successful attacks. ESG has surveyed IT leaders and organizations to find out how big of a problem ransomware is, what are the business consequences of downtime caused by these attacks, and which are some of the best practices and capabilities organizations need to apply to be protected. According to the ESG research, nearly two-thirds of surveyed organizations across North America and Western Europe experienced a ransomware attack at some point last year, with 22% reporting weekly attacks. The attacks have helped make cybersecurity a target of IT investment, and spending is accelerating. What’s needed to fend off this epidemic are best practices and tools to: Prevent or at least mitigate attacks Protect data and backup data Recover reliably"

Learn how fileless techniques work and why they present such a complex challenge. The arms race between cybersecurity vendors and determined adversaries has never been more heated. As soon as a new security tool is released, threat actors strive to develop a way around it. One advanced threat technique that is experiencing success is the use of fileless attacks, where no executable file is written to disk. The 2017 Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report found that 51 percent of cyberattacks are malware-free, so there’s no indication that these attacks will be subsiding anytime soon. Read this white paper to get the important information you need to successfully defend your company against stealthy fileless attacks. Guidance for taking any organization to the highest level of endpoint protection regardless of internal resources Organizations today have a wealth of security tools available to them but many struggle to take full advantage of the technology they have. Too often, this results in a damaging breach that could have been avoided if their solutions had been configured and updated properly or if detections had been noticed and acted on. How well your organization is doing at fully implementing its security solutions, particularly endpoint protection technology, is a reflection of your cybersecurity maturity. This white paper, “CrowdStrike Falcon Complete: How to Achieve Instant Cybersecurity Maturity for Organizations of all Sizes,” explores the challenges organizations face in getting the most out of a security solution. It also offers insights on how CrowdStrike Falcon Complete can raise you to the highest level of endpoint protection with speed and efficiency, regardless of your size an
